The year’s most popular documentaries included “Sterben für Anfänger” (“Dying for Beginners”) and “Zverev – Der Unvollendete” (“Zverev – The Unfinished”). The soccer match between AS Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen was also a major audience magnet for RTL+ in 2023.

NFL Reaches More People on RTL than Ever before on German TV
RTL Deutschland and the US National Football League (NFL) exceeded all expectations in their first year together, with numerous top ratings. By investing heavily in cross-media offerings with new TV magazine shows, audio offers, and streaming content, the US professional league reached more people in Germany than ever before. The games were particularly successful with young audiences: RTL did especially well among young male viewers (aged 14 to 29), scoring a total market share of 23.0 percent for kick-off at 10 p.m., thus reaching an important target group for marketing on linear TV. After 18 weeks of the regular NFL season, RTL had exceeded the average of the previous year’s season both in terms of overall reach and all of the advertisers’ preferred demographics.

RTL Deutschland Presents Pumuckl with AI-Generated Original Voice
Artificial intelligence was a key driver for RTL Group’s innovative projects in 2023. AI was even used extensively and prominently for the first time in the production of a new series. Pumuckl, the impish children’s character, returned to the screen, and with him the voice of Hans Clarin, who actually died in 2005. Using AI, the voice of actor and cabaret artist Maximilian Schafroth was transformed into the unmistakable voice of Pumuckl as performed by Hans Clarin. The innovative dubbing was carried out in consultation with Hans Clarin’s family. Even family members had difficulties discerning the difference to the original. For the red-haired goblin’s old and new fans, RTL+ exclusively made both voice versions available for streaming.

Stern Is Germany’s Most Widely Read Magazine
Successfully told stories that become the talk of Germany: Stern was the big winner in the latest “ma Pressemedien” 2024 reach analysis published by Arbeitsgemeinschaft Media-Analyse e.V. (agma). With 3.88 million readers, the magazine was clearly ahead of Spiegel (3.60 million) and Focus (3.11 million), making it, once again, the biggest over-the-counter consumer magazine. Its expansion progressed apace in the digital realm as well. By 2025, around 80 million euros are to be invested in RTL Deutschland’s reorganized publishing business with the core brands Stern, Geo, Brigitte and Gala, of which 30 million euros alone will be invested in the expansion of Stern+’s paid content offering. To mark its 75th anniversary, Stern published a compilation of pictures looking back over the past 75 years and a special anniversary edition in September.
